How to Make Homemade Solar Cooker

At present most of the ouses is using LPG or electric stoves for preparing food. Using LPG or electricity in cooking is becoming cumbersome day by day, so for those families, solar cooker can prove to be an advantageous offer.

Bend all the flaps of cardboard box out and down and then tape it at the corners.

Prepare the insulation. Cover whole inside of the cardboard by insulating material and stick it and if you want a better result, then glued it.

Use aluminum foil on each side of the insulation and sprayed them with some dark colors.

Prepare the lid for the solar cooker. Use cardboard lid that is larger than the top of your cooker. After this cut an opening in the lid so that it match the interior size of the cooker.

Cut the roasting bag and tape it over the opening of the lid.

Insert the thermometer inside the cooker. Thermometer should be poked at the front of the oven.

Tips

  • At the very beginning put the cooker directly to sun and measure the temperature it reaches after some time and also monitor the variation in it.
  • Check the appropriate position of your cooker so that you can utilize the maximum of sunlight.
  • So when it all got finished keep your food inside it and watch it carefully till it get cooked properly.
  • Routine checkup is very necessary because temperature inside the cooker will vary time to time.
  • When you get satisfied just opens the lid and takes out the food.

Things You'll Need

  • Plain old cardboard box of dimension around 20" x 20" x 18".
  • A flat sheet of cardboard to cover the top surface of the cooker.
  • Good old duct tape.
  • Insulating materials of size around 1” thickness, generally hardboard.
  • White glue for sticking purpose.
  • Paint for spraying outer side of the cooker.
  • Big roasting bags
