So, you broke a plate and are afraid you'll get in trouble? No worries! This tutorial is coming to the rescue! Turn that old plate into a very cool distressed flower vase. Everyone will be so distracted by your crafty creation, they won't even mind that you used Grandma's China to make it.
You Will Need
• Old plate
• Square vase
• Strong, sealable plastic bag
• Hammer
• Safety goggles
• Gloves
• Paper
• Pencil
• Glue
• Grout
• Rag
• Flowers
Step 1: Pick a plate and vase
Pick a plate with colors that match your taste and a square shaped vase.
Use a plate that is mostly flat.
Step 2: Place the plate in plastic bag
Place the plate into a strong plastic bag and seal the bag.
Step 3: Break plate
In a safe work area, put on your safety goggles and hit the plate with the hammer until you have pieces small enough to work with.
Do the project outside or in the garage so you don't get stray, sharp pieces of plate inside your home.
Step 4: Layout pieces
Put on gloves to keep from cutting yourself, and lay the plate pieces decorated side-up in front of you.
Step 5: Trace vase
Trace each side of the vase on a piece of paper. Then lay your plate pieces on the paper until you have the design you want. Leave space between the pieces for grout.
Step 6: Glue pieces on vase
Glue the pieces on each side of the vase with your glue, following the pattern you traced on the paper. Let the glue dry overnight.
Step 7: Apply grout
Apply grout in all of the spaces between the pieces on the vase. Remove excess grout and let the vase sit for half an hour. Then use a wet rag to wipe the plate pieces clean.
Step 8: Let the vase dry
Let the vase dry according to the grout directions. Then buff your vase with a dry rag.
Step 9: Put in flowers
Put your flowers in the vase and display them!
